Which fabric to choose for upholstery

Which fabric to choose for upholstery.

The purchase of chairs and armchairs is an important and responsible process, since this is not done often. At the same time, we hope that they will serve us and our families for more than one decade, will merge into an already finished interior, or create comfort in a new room.

When choosing furniture, we pay attention to several details: the material and quality of the frame, the features of its design (the time of use of chairs and chairs largely depends on this), the design and coating of the wooden parts of the product (we select it for our interior), and also, the type and color of the upholstery of the soft parts. All aspects of the choice are important, but we will focus on the upholstery material that our company uses.
Furniture factory "Ywood" produces chair frames from solid oak, beech, ash, and then our craftsmen and craftswomen sheathe them with fabrics, turning them into soft products, or chairs with soft seats.

Types of fabrics used by our Ywood factory for upholstery of seats and upholstered chairs.
The properties of upholstery fabrics, their service life and appearance depend on:

  • its density;
    the raw material from which the material is made;
    the weave of fibers and the way it is processed;
    production technology.

In our production we use several types of fabrics from well-known European manufacturers - Arteks, Top Textile, Fabric Lab, Eden, Exim Textile, Apparel.

Velours

This is a fabric that has a soft and fleecy structure, similar to velvet. Velor is produced from synthetic, natural and artificial raw materials. In the furniture industry, all types of velor with a short smooth pile are used, but most often artificial. This fabric is breathable, retains its original appearance for a long time and does not undergo deformation, and is easy to clean. With soft velor-upholstered chairs, your room will look luxurious.

Jacquard

Furniture upholstered with jacquard weave fabric will serve you for a very long time, will not fade in the sun, and is suitable for use even by allergy sufferers. This fabric can be either natural or synthetic or mixed, but this weave provides increased strength, crease resistance, and ease of care. It is ideal for any setting, including restaurants, hotels and offices. European manufacturers provide a wide range of patterns and colors, which makes it possible to perfectly match the upholstery for any interior. Dry cleaning is sufficient for maintenance.
Also, in our production we use chenille, a fabric with a more complex jacquard weave.

Rogozhka

In the production of furniture, mainly a blended fabric of natural and artificial fibers, interwoven in a checkerboard pattern, is used. It is very durable, breathable, wear-resistant, hypoallergenic. Does not require special care, dry cleaning is sufficient. The disadvantage of this fabric is that pets are not allowed to sharpen their nails.

Suede leather

Suede is one of the beneficial solutions for chairs. It can be natural (from animal skin) or artificial (from natural fibers or microfiber, polyester). The fabric is durable, retains its excellent appearance for years, and is not demanding to care for. The price of products made of natural suede is above average, with artificial suede it is available to everyone.
But she, too, will not "make friends" with your cat.

Which is best for your products: fabric or leather?

Nobody can answer this question exactly: it all depends on your taste, capabilities, and also on the design of the room, operating conditions, and many other factors.
Genuine leather is considered to be an ideal covering for upholstered furniture parts, but it is expensive, not practical if you have pets, or the flow of customers in a restaurant or bar is very large.
Fabrics have excellent protective properties against dirt, are ideal in care, are durable in use, they are comfortable for rest, allow air to pass into the inner part of the product, their price is much lower than leather.

What is the ideal upholstery fabric?

When choosing furniture with soft elements, experts recommend paying attention to some of the features that we will now consider.

  •  Whether the selected armchairs or chairs are appropriate for this room design: sophisticated velvet fabrics are unlikely to fit into the country style.
  • The material of the upholstery should correspond to the purpose of the furniture: if you have a kitten in your house, then the fabrics should be durable, practical to use.
  • How often you are ready to change the furniture upholstery: if you are a fan of “playing” with the interior, then light fabrics will do, and lovers of “stability” can choose furniture with dense fabrics, such as jacquard or eco-leather, they will serve you for decades.
  • Another feature when choosing a fabric is the illumination of the room where they will be located. If direct sunlight enters the room, a UV-resistant material must be selected.
  • Your health and the health of your family. Another criterion for choosing fabrics: it should not contain allergic substances and affect the well-being of relatives.
  • Fast and high-quality care for the soft part of the interior, saving time, also plays a decisive role. At the same time, synthetic fabrics are ideal: time and money is spent minimally, they are inert to moisture, sometimes one vacuum cleaner or napkin is enough for cleaning.
  • The upholstery needs to breathe. A fabric that does not allow moisture to pass through is a place for bacteria and fungi to accumulate, so choose a "breathable" material.

In conclusion, we can say that the choice of fabric directly affects the quality and durability of upholstered furniture parts.

The «Ywood» company treats its reputation with trepidation and uses only high-quality, wear-resistant, environmentally friendly upholstery materials from leading European manufacturers of fabrics.
